Role Overview
The Financial Accountant plays a key role in supporting core accounting functions, focusing on month-end closing, reconciliations, compliance, and reporting. The role involves cross-functional coordination with AP/AR, internal operations, and external stakeholders such as intercompany (IC) teams and banks. The position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Closing:
Perform month-end closing activities including accruals, prepayments, and journal adjustments.
Reconciliations:
Conduct balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve variances.
Handle intercompany reconciliations and ensure matching balances across group entities.
Complete bank and petty cash reconciliations to verify accurate postings.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare financial reports and schedules for management review.
Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reports as requested by management.
Audit & Compliance:
Support internal and external audits by providing timely documentation and clarifications.
Ensure compliance with IFRS standards and internal financial controls.
Cross-Functional Coordination:
Liaise with cross-functional teams (AP, AR, operations) to resolve accounting queries.
Coordinate with internal operations, intercompany (IC) teams, and banks for finance-related matters.
Tax & Regulatory:
Manage VAT submissions and refunds, including preparation and follow-up with authorities.
Treasury and cash management:
Load and review payments and receipts
Perform daily bank reconciliations
Support Finance Manager in cash flow management
Liaise and coordinate with Treasury Manager/banks on any bank issues pending resolution
Role Requirements
Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
Minimum 3-5 years’ relevant experience in similar role – preferably in a logistics environment.
Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA or CA is preferred.
Ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable business insights.
Strong Excel & Financial Modelling skill; experience with integrated ERP systems.
Strong knowledge of IFRS and GAAP is preferred.
Strong communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive accountability.
